Requirements and Procedures

The IMPRS-GW doctoral programme is open for students from all countries. The admission to our IMPRS is contingent on your being able to obtain admission as a doctoral student at a university. This would normally be the Leibniz Universität Hannover. Below you find information about requirements for the doctoral programme and your application.

Students of all countries can apply if they hold a German Diploma, Staatsexamen, a Master of Science or equivalent. A written thesis is a necessary condition for admission into the school. Exceptionally good students with a Bachelor´s degree (e. g., first class BA with honors) may be admitted to the IMPRS and will be given the possibility of obtaining the Master´s degree at Leibniz Universität Hannover.

Successful applicants will receive a work contract that includes contributions to health insurance, retirement benefits, and is taxable. The salary is commensurate with local pay scales.

In order to apply for the IMPRS on Gravitational-Wave Astronomy in Hannover please submit your application online. This link to the application portal has been tested with different web browsers to make sure that it works. In case of unexpected problems, please contac us.

There is no deadline for applications and it is recommended to apply about six months prior to the desired starting date.

Prepare all required documents:

1. Curriculum vitae (with degrees, examinations, dates)
2. A short essay of up to one-page length, indicating your research field interests and motivation for this application
3. Copies of high school graduation and of all university degrees obtained

Combine the documents 1, 2 and 3 into a single PDF. Please consider that the form will timeout after 30 minutes. After this time you will have to reload the form and start again. In the form we ask for email addresses for three referees who will give your letter of recommendation.

Please name three referees who can provide letters of recommendation. They will then be contacted by us. Applications are accepted at any time.
