University registration
To receive your PhD degrees, PhD students have to be enrolled at a university – the Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) is the default choice for PhD students who are working at the Albert Einstein Institute in Hannover. This page provides information about admission as a PhD student to LUH. If you have further questions or if you want to enroll in a different university (German or international), please contact the IMPRS Office in Hannover.
Registration at Leibniz Universität Hannover
PhD students at LUH have to pay a fee of about 400 Euro for each semester which includes a ticket for the public transport. Our IMPRS recommends that all students matriculate already at the beginning of their PhD. If you have a question about the timing of matriculation you can ask us. For more information about the registration process please visit here.
Furthermore, PhD students at the AEI Hannover are required to gain teaching experience during their first two years. This should be achieved in the student laboratory or in tutorials, and as advisor for undergraduates in the student seminar.
Matriculation and Admission
Doctoral researchers are required to enroll as doctoral students at LUH. This page will guide you though the process. First, they have to be accepted by either the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics or by the QUEST Leibniz Research School.
A non-certified copy is sufficient if you show the original or a certified copy to Brigitte Weskamp (Faculty of Mathematics and Physics) or Brigitte Ohlendorf (QUEST - Leibniz Research School), respectively.
