Prerequisites

Applicants must have a M.Sc. degree or the equivalent in a subject area related to one of the research areas of the IMPRS (e.g., a M.Sc. in Physics).  The degree need not be completed at the time of application, however it must be awarded before the start of the PhD studies. Generally, applicants should have progressed far enough in their Master’s research (or equivalent) to be able to give a brief presentation at the time of the interview in early February.

The IMPRS and research at the AEI and the partner institutes is conducted in English, and so proficiency in English is essential. The application does not require formal tests of English proficiency. Instead, we will pay attention to English skills of short-listed applicants during the interviews. However, for international applicants who are not native English speakers, it is helpful for the selection process to provide proof of English proficiency.
