One of the main (and sometime only) tool for exploring general relativity, including the theory of gravitational wave sources, is to solve Einstein's equations numerically. This is an active area of research worldwide and it is a major theme at the Albert Einstein Institute. Research includes the binary black-hole problem and the development of numerical hydrodynamics techniques in relativistic gravity. The group is supported by a  number of high-performance computer clusters, named Peyote, Belladonna and Damiana. More information on the numerical-relativity and source modelling group can be found here.
